Patrick 'Pat' Floyd Garrett was a legendary American Old West lawman, bartender, and customs agent. He is most famously remembered as the sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico, who tracked down and killed the notorious outlaw, Billy the Kid, in 1881. After his time as sheriff, Garrett's life involved various roles, including cattle ranching and serving as a customs collector in El Paso, appointed by President Theodore Roosevelt. His life ended under mysterious circumstances when he was shot and killed near Las Cruces, New Mexico, with his murder remaining a subject of historical debate.
