Omar Khayyam

Poet

Ghiyāth al-Dīn Abū al-Fatḥ ʿUmar ibn Ibrāhīm al-Khayyām Nīshāpūrī, commonly known as Omar Khayyam, was a Persian polymath, renowned as a mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet. He made significant contributions to mathematics, particularly with his work on the classification and solution of cubic equations, and as an astronomer, he led the reform of the Persian calendar. In the English-speaking world, he is most famous for his collection of poems, or quatrains (rubāiyāt), which were popularized through Edward FitzGerald's 19th-century translation, 'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam'. His work seamlessly blended scientific inquiry with profound philosophical and poetic reflections on life, destiny, and the divine.
