Norma McCorvey

Activist

Norma McCorvey was the American plaintiff, under the legal pseudonym "Jane Roe," in the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade which legalized abortion in the United States in 1973. Initially an anonymous figure, she later revealed her identity and became an outspoken advocate for abortion rights. However, in a surprising turn in the 1990s, she converted to evangelical Christianity and became a prominent anti-abortion activist. In a deathbed confession documented in the film AKA Jane Roe, McCorvey stated that her later anti-abortion stance was an "act" for which she was paid by anti-abortion groups.
