Morris Seligman Dees Jr. is an American attorney known as the co-founder and former chief trial counsel for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Based in Montgomery, Alabama, he became famous for his successful legal crusades against white supremacist and other hate groups. Through the SPLC, Dees pioneered innovative legal strategies to financially cripple organized hate groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan. While his work has earned him numerous accolades, he has also faced controversy, which led to his dismissal from the organization in 2019.
