Michael Milken

Financier

Michael Milken is an American financier and philanthropist known for his prominent role in developing the market for high-yield bonds, often called 'junk bonds.' During the 1980s, he became a dominant figure on Wall Street while at the investment bank Drexel Burnham Lambert, financing numerous corporate mergers and acquisitions. His career was later defined by a 1989 indictment for racketeering and securities fraud, to which he ultimately pleaded guilty on several felony charges. After serving his prison sentence, Milken has dedicated himself to philanthropy, co-founding the Milken Family Foundation and chairing the Milken Institute, focusing on medical research and public health.
