Michael Stanley Dukakis is an American retired lawyer and politician who served as the 65th and 67th Governor of Massachusetts. He is the longest-serving governor in Massachusetts history and only the second Greek-American governor in U.S. history. In 1988, he was the Democratic nominee for President of the United States, ultimately losing to the Republican candidate, Vice President George H. W. Bush. Following his political career, he became a distinguished professor of political science at Northeastern University and a visiting professor at other institutions.
