Meister Eckhart

Theologian

Meister Eckhart was a German theologian, philosopher, and mystic, born near Gotha in the Landgraviate of Thuringia. He became one of the most influential Christian Neoplatonists, known for his sermons, treatises, and profound mystical teachings. His work explored the nature of the divine, the soul's union with God, and the concept of 'Godhead' beyond the personal God of dogma. Despite his influence, some of his teachings were later condemned as heretical by the Pope, a controversy that has been debated by scholars for centuries.
