General Matthew B. Ridgway was a distinguished senior officer of the United States Army. He is renowned for his command of the 82nd Airborne Division during the Normandy landings in World War II. During the Korean War, he took command of the Eighth Army and successfully turned the tide of the conflict against Chinese and North Korean forces. After the war, he served as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe and later as the Chief of Staff of the United States Army.
