Margaret Fuller

Author

Sarah Margaret Fuller was a leading American journalist, critic, and women's rights advocate associated with the transcendentalist movement. She was the first full-time American female book reviewer in journalism and established the influential journal 'The Dial' with Ralph Waldo Emerson. Her seminal work, 'Woman in the Nineteenth Century,' is considered the first major feminist work in the United States, advocating for women's intellectual and social equality. Tragically, her life was cut short when she, her husband, and their young child died in a shipwreck off Fire Island, New York, while returning to America.
