Marat Mubinovich Safin is a Russian former world No. 1 tennis player and a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He achieved the top ranking for nine weeks between November 2000 and April 2001. Safin won two major singles titles, the 2000 US Open and the 2005 Australian Open, and led Russia to Davis Cup victory in 2002 and 2006. Known for his powerful groundstrokes and emotional on-court demeanor, he retired from professional tennis in 2009.
