Lord North

Politician

Frederick North, 2nd Earl of Guilford, commonly known as Lord North, served as the Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1770 to 1782. His tenure was overwhelmingly defined by the escalating crisis in the American colonies, which ultimately led to the American War of Independence. North's government passed several controversial measures, including the Tea Act and the Intolerable Acts, which inflamed colonial tensions and precipitated the conflict. After resigning following the British defeat at Yorktown, he later returned to office as Home Secretary, leaving a legacy as the prime minister who lost America.
