Leonard Rose was a preeminent American cellist and educator, celebrated for his rich tone and profound musicality. Born in Washington, D.C., he served as principal cellist for both the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. As a soloist, he performed with major orchestras worldwide and formed a highly acclaimed trio with Isaac Stern and Eugene Istomin. He was also a revered teacher, instructing many of the world's leading cellists at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music.
