Karen Alexandria Kain is a celebrated Canadian ballet dancer and arts administrator. She joined the National Ballet of Canada in 1969, becoming a principal dancer in 1971 and gaining international fame after winning the silver medal at the Moscow International Ballet Competition in 1973. Throughout her illustrious career, she was renowned for her partnership with fellow dancer Frank Augustyn and her powerful interpretations of classical and contemporary roles. After retiring from dancing in 1997, she served as the esteemed artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada from 2005 to 2021, shaping the company's direction for a new generation.
