Poet

Juan Ramón Jiménez was a Spanish poet and a leading figure of the literary movement known as modernismo. Born in Moguer, Andalusia, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1956 for his lyrical poetry, which in the Spanish language constitutes an example of high spirit and artistic purity. His most famous work is "Platero y yo" (Platero and I), a prose poem that captures the simple beauty of life in his Andalusian hometown. Exiled from Spain during the Spanish Civil War, he lived in Cuba, the United States, and Puerto Rico, where he continued to write and influence generations of poets.
