Joseph C. Wilson

Diplomat

Joseph Charles Wilson IV was an American diplomat best known for his 2002 trip to Niger to investigate allegations that Saddam Hussein was attempting to purchase yellowcake uranium. He subsequently published a critical New York Times op-ed, "What I Didn't Find in Africa," disputing the Bush administration's rationale for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. This article triggered a major political controversy known as the Plame affair, after his then-wife Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA officer was leaked by administration officials. Wilson's actions and the ensuing scandal made him a prominent voice in the debate over the intelligence used to justify the Iraq War.
