John Wycliffe was an influential English scholastic philosopher, theologian, and religious reformer at the University of Oxford. He became a prominent dissident within the Roman Catholic priesthood during the 14th century and is considered a key predecessor to the Protestant Reformation. Wycliffe is best known for promoting the first complete translation of the Bible into English, which became known as Wycliffe's Bible. His followers, known as Lollards, continued to spread his ideas after his death, challenging the authority of the papacy and the clergy.
