John Sharp Williams was an influential American politician and planter from Mississippi. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1893 to 1909, acting as the House Minority Leader for the last six years of his term. Subsequently, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he represented Mississippi from 1911 until 1923. A conservative Democrat, Williams was renowned for his powerful oratory and his complex political stances, initially supporting Woodrow Wilson before opposing the League of Nations.
