Ian Dury

Musician

Ian Dury was a seminal English singer-songwriter and bandleader who rose to fame during the late 1970s pub rock, punk, and new wave movements. As the frontman of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, he combined elements of music hall, rock and roll, and funk with his witty, observational, and often profane lyrics. His most famous songs, including "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick," "Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3," and "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll," became anthems of their time. Despite contracting polio as a child which left him with a lifelong disability, Dury's charismatic stage presence and unique lyrical style cemented his legacy as one of Britain's most original musical artists.
