Hirohito (Emperor Shōwa)

Emperor

Hirohito, posthumously known as Emperor Shōwa, was the 124th Emperor of Japan, reigning from 1926 until his death in 1989. His reign was the longest of any Japanese emperor and oversaw immense societal, political, and economic changes, including Japan's imperial expansion and World War II. Following the war, he became a symbol of the new state under a pacifist constitution, renouncing his former divine status. His role during the war remains a subject of historical debate, but he presided over Japan's post-war reconstruction and its emergence as a global economic power.
