Henry Harland was an influential American writer and editor, known for his significant contributions to the Aesthetic movement of the late 19th century. Born in Russia to American parents, he spent much of his career in London, where he became the literary editor of the renowned avant-garde journal, The Yellow Book. Under the pseudonym Sidney Luska, he initially wrote novels focusing on Jewish life in New York before adopting a more romantic style in works like The Cardinal's Snuff-Box. His work, characterized by its witty dialogue and elegant prose, captured the sophisticated and decadent spirit of the fin de siècle.
