Hartley William Shawcross was a prominent British barrister, politician, and the main British prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials. Serving as Attorney General for England and Wales, he played a crucial role in post-war international law and the prosecution of Nazi war criminals. He famously declared at Nuremberg that individuals have an international duty which transcends their national obligations of obedience. After leaving politics, he had a successful career in business and was made a life peer in 1959, becoming Baron Shawcross.
