Giorgio Vasari

Artist

Giorgio Vasari was a pivotal Italian painter, architect, writer, and historian, best known for his influential book 'The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects.' This work is considered the ideological foundation of art-historical writing and established the reputations of many Renaissance artists. As an architect, his most significant project was the design of the Uffizi Palace in Florence, which originally housed magistrate offices. Vasari also founded the Accademia e Compagnia delle Arti del Disegno in 1563, with Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici as a primary patron.
