George Sandys was a distinguished English traveller, colonist, poet, and translator, born into a prominent ecclesiastical family. He is best known for his 1615 travelogue, a work detailing his extensive travels through the Ottoman Empire. While serving as the treasurer of the Virginia Company in America, he completed his influential translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses, a landmark of English literature.
