George Albert Smith was an American religious leader who served as the eighth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1945 until his death in 1951. He was the son of apostle John Henry Smith and a grandson of apostle George A. Smith, for whom he was named. Throughout his leadership, he was known for his emphasis on love, kindness, and tolerance towards all people, regardless of their background. His tenure as president saw the Church expand its welfare and humanitarian efforts globally following World War II.
