Francis Xavier

Francis Xavier was a Navarrese Catholic missionary and a co-founder of the Society of Jesus. He was a companion of Ignatius of Loyola and one of the first seven Jesuits who took vows of poverty and chastity. Xavier led an extensive mission into Asia, mainly in the Portuguese Empire, and was influential in the evangelization work in India and Japan. He was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1622 and is the patron saint of missionaries.
