Enrico Fermi was an Italian and naturalized American physicist renowned for his groundbreaking work on the development of the first nuclear reactor, Chicago Pile-1. Often called the 'architect of the nuclear age,' he made significant contributions to both theoretical and experimental physics. He was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity by neutron bombardment and for the discovery of transuranic elements. During World War II, Fermi was a key leader of the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb.
