Eliot Furness Porter was an American photographer best known for his intimate color photographs of nature. Originally trained as a chemical engineer and medical doctor, he pursued photography as a serious hobby before dedicating his life to the craft. Encouraged by Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams, Porter became a pioneer in using the dye-transfer process to create richly detailed color prints. His work was instrumental in gaining acceptance for color photography as a legitimate artistic medium and remains influential in landscape and nature photography.
