Edward Teller

Physicist

Edward Teller was a Hungarian-American theoretical physicist who made numerous contributions to nuclear and molecular physics. Widely known as 'the father of the hydrogen bomb,' a title he reportedly detested, he was a key member of the Manhattan Project. Teller was a staunch advocate for a strong nuclear weapons program throughout the Cold War and co-founded Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His controversial testimony in the J. Robert Oppenheimer security hearing damaged his standing in the scientific community but solidified his influence in government.
