Richard Edward "Eddy" Arnold was an American country music singer who performed for six decades. He was a primary innovator of the Nashville sound, a smoother style of country music that expanded its appeal to a wider audience. With 147 songs on the Billboard country music charts, Arnold sold more than 85 million records, making him one of the most successful artists of the 20th century. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966 and received the National Medal of Arts in 2000.
