Harland David Sanders, better known as Colonel Sanders, was an American businessman best known for founding the fast-food chicken restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). He began selling fried chicken from his roadside motel in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. Sanders recognized the potential of the restaurant franchising concept, and the first KFC franchise opened in Utah in 1952. His iconic image, complete with a white suit and goatee, remains a prominent and globally recognized part of KFC's branding.
