Clarence Thomas is an American jurist serving as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Nominated by President George H. W. Bush, he succeeded Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. Thomas is the second African American to serve on the Court and is widely considered its most conservative member. His jurisprudence is noted for its adherence to textualism and originalism in interpreting the Constitution.
