Chen Shui-bian

“What's wrong with Taiwan?”

“Taiwan has to be a country of our own.”

“The Republic of China is Taiwan, and Taiwan is the Republic of China.”

“A-Bian is innocent. A-Bian did not do it.”

“My imprisonment is a political matter, not a legal one.”

“We must bravely say no to China when it is necessary.”

“Taiwan stands up.”

“Political persecution will not defeat me.”

“I will be president for all the people, not just for those who voted for me.”

“Is there a need for Taiwan to proclaim its independence? Taiwan is already a sovereign, independent country. Its name is the Republic of China.”

“The people of Taiwan want to be the masters of their own destiny.”

“I sincerely believe that the reconciliation between the two sides of the strait starts with dialogue, and that dialogue is the only way to resolve our disputes.”

“To manage the great Taiwan and to build a new country has always been my dream.”

“We should have our own name and should call ourselves Taiwan.”
