Charles Olson

Poet

Charles Olson was a highly influential American modernist poet and essayist. He was a central figure in the Black Mountain school of poetry and served as the rector of Black Mountain College. His seminal 1950 essay, "Projective Verse," advocated for a form of open-field composition based on the poet's breath and attention. Olson's work, including his epic "The Maximus Poems," has had a lasting impact on subsequent generations of avant-garde writers.
