Charles Edison was an American politician, businessman, and inventor, following in the footsteps of his famous father, Thomas Edison. He served as the 42nd Governor of New Jersey from 1941 to 1944 and as the United States Secretary of the Navy in 1940. Before his political career, Edison ran his father's company, Thomas A. Edison, Inc., and was a known advocate for conservation and civic reform. Throughout his life, he balanced the demands of public service with the legacy of his family's vast industrial and inventive enterprises.
