Charles Curtis was an American attorney and politician who served as the 31st Vice President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a U.S. Representative and a U.S. Senator from Kansas. Curtis was the first person with verifiable Native American ancestry and the first person of color to hold one of the two highest offices in the U.S. executive branch. His political career was marked by his efforts in party leadership and his advocacy for various legislative measures, including those related to tariffs and agriculture.
