Caspar Willard Weinberger was an American politician and businessman who served in various high-level federal government positions. He served as Secretary of Defense under President Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1987, where he oversaw a massive peacetime military buildup. Before his time at the Pentagon, he also served as Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare and director of the Office of Management and Budget. Weinberger was later indicted in the Iran-Contra affair but was pardoned by President George H. W. Bush before any trial commenced.
