Buenaventura Durruti was a leading figure in Spanish anarchism during the pre-war and Spanish Civil War periods. A prominent member of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) and the Federación Anarquista Ibérica (FAI), he was a central militant in the revolutionary movements of his time. During the Civil War, he organized and led the famed Durruti Column, a significant anarchist militia fighting against Franco's nationalist forces. His death in Madrid under controversial circumstances cemented his status as a legendary martyr for the international anarchist cause.
