Bruno Schulz

Author

Bruno Schulz was a Polish-Jewish writer, artist, literary critic, and art teacher, regarded as one of the great Polish-language prose stylists of the 20th century. Born in Drohobych, Austria-Hungary (present-day Ukraine), his life and work were deeply intertwined with the provincial town's unique atmosphere. He is best known for his two collections of short stories, "The Street of Crocodiles" and "Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass," which blend reality with myth and dreamlike fantasy. Tragically, Schulz's promising literary career was cut short when he was murdered by a Gestapo officer in the Drohobych ghetto during the Holocaust.
