Brigham Young was a prominent American religious leader and the second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He led his followers, the Mormon pioneers, in a mass exodus across the desert to the Salt Lake Valley in what is now Utah. Serving as the first governor of the Utah Territory, he oversaw the founding of Salt Lake City and numerous other settlements. His leadership was instrumental in the establishment of the Mormon community in the American West and he remains a significant figure in American religious history.
