Bix Beiderbecke

Musician

Leon Bismark 'Bix' Beiderbecke was an influential American jazz cornetist, pianist, and composer. A musical prodigy, he taught himself cornet largely by ear, developing an unorthodox fingering style that many other players tried to emulate. His lyrical, inventive, and emotionally pure approach to improvisation made him one of the first major jazz soloists, alongside Louis Armstrong. Despite a short career tragically cut short by alcoholism, his recordings left an indelible mark on the history of jazz music.
