Veeck was known for his groundbreaking promotions, such as sending Eddie Gaedel, a man with dwarfism, to bat and introducing the exploding scoreboard. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, he is remembered for his fan-centric approach and for breaking the color barrier in the American League by signing Larry Doby.
