Barbara Castle was a prominent British Labour Party politician, renowned for her socialist convictions and fiery determination. She served as a Member of Parliament from 1945 to 1979, holding several cabinet positions including Minister of Transport and Secretary of State for Employment. As Transport Minister, she controversially introduced the breathalyser test and the 70 mph national speed limit. Later in her career, she became a Member of the European Parliament and was made a life peer, continuing her political work in the House of Lords.
