Aulus Gellius was a Roman author and grammarian, best known for his work, the Attic Nights. This collection is a miscellany of notes on grammar, philosophy, history, and antiquarian subjects, preserving fragments from many authors that would otherwise be lost. He studied grammar and rhetoric in Rome and later philosophy in Athens, which heavily influenced his writings. The Attic Nights provides invaluable insight into the intellectual life of the 2nd century and remains an important source for the study of classical antiquity.
