Aubrey Beardsley

Artist

Aubrey Vincent Beardsley was a leading English illustrator and author whose drawings in black ink were influenced by the style of Japanese woodcuts. He was a prominent figure in the Aesthetic movement which also included Oscar Wilde and James McNeill Whistler. Beardsley's work emphasized the grotesque, the decadent, and the erotic, becoming a defining visual element of the Art Nouveau style. Despite his short career, cut short by his death from tuberculosis at the age of 25, his artistic contributions left an indelible mark on the Art Nouveau movement.
