Arrian

Historian

Lucius Flavius Arrianus, commonly known as Arrian, was a Greek historian, public servant, military commander, and philosopher of the Roman period. Serving in the Roman army, he rose through the ranks and was appointed governor of Cappadocia by Emperor Hadrian. He is most famous for his historical work, the Anabasis of Alexander, which is considered the best surviving account of the campaigns of Alexander the Great. A student of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus, Arrian's writings reflect a commitment to philosophical principles and historical accuracy.
