Antonio Machado was a Spanish poet and a leading figure of the Spanish literary movement known as the Generation of '98. His work, initially modernist, evolved into a form of intimate symbolism with romantic traits. Machado is widely considered one of the most important Spanish poets of the 20th century. He died in exile in Collioure, France, shortly after the end of the Spanish Civil War.
