Alexis Argüello was a Nicaraguan professional boxer who competed from 1968 to 1995. Nicknamed 'El Flaco Explosivo' (The Explosive Thin Man), he was a three-weight world champion, having held titles at featherweight, super featherweight, and lightweight. Argüello is frequently cited by boxing experts and historians as one of the greatest boxers of all time, renowned for his punching power, technical skill, and sportsmanship. After retiring from boxing, he entered politics and was elected mayor of his native Managua in 2008 before his death the following year.
