Marcus Aurelius Severus Alexander, known as Alexander Severus, was Roman emperor from 222 to 235 and the last of the Severan dynasty. Ascending to the throne at the age of thirteen, his reign was largely guided by the influence of his mother, Julia Mamaea. He is remembered for his administrative and legal reforms, as well as maintaining a period of relative domestic peace. His reluctance to engage in aggressive warfare and his attempt to buy off Germanic tribes led to his assassination by his own troops, sparking the Crisis of the Third Century.
