Alex Chilton was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the lead singer of the Box Tops and the power pop band Big Star. He first achieved success as a teenager with the Box Tops' hit 'The Letter' in 1967. After leaving the Box Tops, he co-founded Big Star, which released several critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful albums that later became cult classics. Chilton's subsequent solo career was eclectic and influential, cementing his legacy as a pivotal figure in alternative and indie rock.
