Alberto Salazar is a Cuban-American former long-distance runner, best known for his victories in the New York City Marathon three consecutive times from 1980 to 1982. He also won the 1982 Boston Marathon in a dramatic duel that became known as the "Duel in the Sun." After his competitive career, he became a highly successful but controversial coach for the Nike Oregon Project. His coaching career ended in scandal, leading to a lifetime ban from the sport for anti-doping rule violations.
